LEAKED: Upcoming Executive Order Will Restore One Of America’s Most Cherished Freedoms
Progressive news magazine The Nation obtained a copy of a leaked executive order that could deal the largest blow yet to left-wing pressure groups and gay rights advocates.
According to the paper, who has released copies of the leaked draft on their website:
“The four-page draft order, a copy of which is currently circulating among federal staff and advocacy organizations, construes religious organizations so broadly that it covers “any organization, including closely held for-profit corporations,” and protects ‘religious freedom’ in every walk of life…’”
Before we get our hopes up, the latest update from the White House is that the religious freedom order is not being immediately considered by the president, and it’s part of a wide pool of drafts that the transition team has pulled together from various groups, not all of which will become policy.
“We do not have plans to sign anything at this time but will let you know when we have any updates,” said Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a White House spokesperson.
Predictably, the liberal reaction to the draft is like holy water to a vampire. They have fought for decades to institutionalize anti-Christian persecution, and they’ll be damned if they want to see it all wiped away by fiat order of President Trump.
One of liberals’ favorite games is to seek out ways to sue religious organizations and business owners for conducting themselves in accordance with their faith — unless they are Muslims of course.
There is also the issue of government-funded abortion, which many people argue violates Christians’ rights by forcing them to pay for something they are religiously opposed to.
The issue of gay marriage in the church plays a big role as well. The draft author argues that individual churches should have the right to decide whether or not they will conduct gay marriages, without the threat of losing their tax-exempt status.
Importantly, the order also calls for the protection of corporations and other non-church entities as long as they are acting on behalf of their faith in some way. This broad interpretation could potentially extend protection to almost everyone:
“Persons and organizations do not forfeit their religious freedom when providing social services, education, or healthcare; earning a living, seeking a job, or employing others; receiving government grants or contracts: or otherwise participating in the marketplace, the public square, or interfacing with Federal, State or local governments.”
It goes further to provide specific protections against the progressive homosexual and transgender agenda that advanced rapidly under Obama (emphasis added):
“…the Dept. of the Treasury shall not impose any tax or tax penalty, delay, or deny tax exempt status, to any person, church, or organization on the basis that such person or organization believes, speaks, or acts (or declines to act) in accordance with the belief that marriage is or should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman, sexual relations are properly reserved for such a marriage, male and female and their equivalents refer to an individual’s immutable biological sex as objectively determined by anatomy, physiology, or genetics at or before birth, and that human life begins at conception and merits protection at all stages of life.”
The draft reasserts the basic principles that our nation was founded on: freedom of religion, speech, and association. Contrary to leftist arguments, it does not codify discrimination. It protects liberty. Section 1 reads:
“The United States Constitution enshrines and protects the fundamental natural right to religious liberty. This Constitutional protection ensures that Americans and their religious organizations will not be coerced by the Federal Government into participating in activities that violate their consciences, and will remain free to express their viewpoints without suffering adverse treatment from the Federal Government. It shall be the policy of this Administration to protect religious freedom.”
Some of the high-profile instances that this bill is designed to prevent include:
Hobby Lobby – The owners of Hobby Lobby don’t have a problem with offering insurance that covers most forms of birth control, but they aren’t willing to cover emergency contraceptives like Plan B or IUDs. Hobby Lobby contends its “religious beliefs prohibit them from providing health coverage for contraceptive drugs and devices that end human life after conception.” The case was taken all the way to the Supreme Court, where the owners of Hobby Lobby prevailed.
Chick-fil-A – after Southern Baptist COO Dan Cathy made public remarks critical of gay marriage, activists staged a national boycott against the food chain. Democrat Mayors in Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco, vowed to obstruct the franchise from opening any new locations in their cities — an outrageous move that even the ACLU opposed.
North Carolina Bathroom Bill – LGBT activists outraged when State of NC passes a bill affirming the state’s right to provide men and women-only restrooms in public buildings. The Obama administration actually sued the State of North Carolina over this bill.
Oregon Bakery Lawsuit – Mom-and-Pop bakery refused to bake cake for lesbian couple Laurel and Rachel Bowman-Cryer. Couple requested a homosexual wedding cake, when the practice was not legal in Oregon at the time. The owners are Evangelical Christians who believe that marriage is only between a man and woman, and who run their business consistent with their faith. They were mercilessly dogged by the Oregon government, sued by the lesbians, and forced to pay $140,000 in “damages”, which destroyed their family business. In late 2016, they closed their doors for good.
Planned Parenthood – Christian taxpayers shocked to learn of partial birth abortions, organ harvesting, and other disturbing activities within Planned Parenthood – an organization that receives taxpayer funding.
Forced Gay Adoptions – Catholic churches and charities around the country forced to either adopt children to homosexual couples, or shut down their adoption operations. Many are choosing to shut down.
In the fight for so-called equality, liberals have deliberately sought to punish one group (the religious) by taking away from them and giving to another group (homosexual activists). This divisive tactic has led to enormous resentment between groups that previously tolerated each other.
As Americans, we all deserve the choice to practice any religion we wish, or no religion at all, and to be free from coercion by other groups. This executive order codifies those fundamental beliefs and rolls back constitutional abuses put in place by the Left. Let’s hope that President Trump signs it into law.
